HBR Advisory council 02-08

Mail dated 17th April 2012

HBR Advisory Council

Dear Shyamsunder,

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for joining the HBR Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is an important resource to us at HBR as we continually strive to improve our content to better meet your needs. Through our research program you’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback that will help us understand your perspective on important topics dealing with leadership and management today, in addition you’ll help shape the content we publish and the new products we develop.

Some answers to a few questions we have had from members:

Can I share my membership on an online profile?

If you'd like to include something about the Advisory Council on a social network profile such as LinkedIn, you may include something to this effect, that you are a "member of the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council, an opt-in research community of business professionals." It's important to note it this way so that it is clear that this is an opt-in group of professionals where the primary purpose is participation in market research.

What activities might I be doing as an Advisory Council Member?

We know your time is valuable so we will try not to bombard you with too many requests for help, and there may be times when we don’t have a specific project for you to do. Over the year you could be asked to take part in:

online studies on a specific subject/ new product we are developing

an online discussion forum with peers reacting to a new idea or topic

feedback/reviews of new content

telephone interviews on a key topic

advice on our magazine covers

You would not be asked to take part in every study but we will try to select projects where your expertise will be most valuable, based upon the registration information you’ve already provided. And, of course, it is always up to you if you choose to participate in any given project.

Help us with the next HBR magazine cover

While most of our surveys will go in depth into a topic, we have a very short two-question survey for you to take today to tell us what you think about a few cover options for the June issue of HBR. If you would like to advise us on the cover you think will be best please take part before 19th April 2012. We are sorry this is such a short timeframe however we only have a small amount time between design and print.

Thank you for your time and valuable feedback.

Sincerely,

Tina Silberman

Director of Research
